What’s one of the hardest things about parenting a teenager? Hands down, for me it’s been nailing the “sex talk.” Initially I felt like I shouldn’t be the one to talk to Jake. But Pippin’s TWO attempts were an epic fail, with everyone joking around and skirting the issue. So I put him on camera, as I went in to at least open the dialogue.
I’m open to all reactions or helpful hints. This is all about helping us collectively do a better job!
Your Copulation Confidante,
So-Called Mom
Ha! You’re such a great mom. Not only did you open a dialogue but you were honest and made sure he knew these life decisions are about more than just him. Go mom!
<3 It was SUCH a challenge just for us to take it all seriously, so then it just needed to be OK as a moment of awkwardness and laughter--but in a way that hopefully could resonate without scarring him for life, haha! Having the talk with my girls will be way different--and for some reason, the best way I can describe that approach will be from a defensive angle--which is kind of sad, but not if it's empowering! I definitely didn't learn how to respect my feminine body until I was much older--so hopefully that approach will be much stronger for them.
Being open and honest is the most important part! Keeping communication so they know they can come to you is vital! You’ve got this! ❤️
You realize most parents aren’t going to be so open. Nor could they be. For most, real sex ed will still be learned by trial and error. Like I did. I just got lucky.
